festival darlings the sam roberts band continue to reign rock and roll on the east coast, captivating crowds of ten-thousand plus in buffalo and halifax so far this summer. liveinlimbo.com calls last weekend’s turf set in toronto “incredible,” complete with a “magical” brother down. alina bykova captured these lovely photos of the SRB’s incredible turf magic . . .
. . . and you can check out a bunch more of alina’s awesome photos right here.
this post gives us a shameless reason to stare at the sam roberts band’s summer festival tour schedule. i love the lo-fantasy cover art. also, the words “sam roberts band” and “tour” in the same sentence.
there are two gi-normous non-festival holes in this sched-yule. chronologically, those gaps would be 1) the SRB’s show at the tumbler ridge golf course and country club in tumbler ridge, bc on august 10, and 2) minotaur’s trip to burlington, nl from august 22 – 24.
in related news, alberta is going all buffalo on the SRB’s facebook page. in SRB-less alberta (alberta), it appears the SRB have forgotten our summer date this year. there’s no k-days, or deathfest, or peacefest, or anything fun starting in SRB and ending in fest.
before we panic and cancel summer (because summer isn’t really summer without the SRB, is it?) let’s not forget this facebook’d photo from happier times at the calgary stampede last year. do these look like guys who’d just wear our cowboy hats and forsake us?! never.
there’s gotta be a cross-canada tour in the works. obviously, the sooner it’s announced, the sooner we’ll all sleep better at night, but there’s no doubt the SRB will most definitely bring lo-fantasy to wildrose country, and it will be awesome. when it comes to the SRB and alberta, the feeling is definitely mutual.
right now, you’ve got three (3) options for live SRB in western canada this summer, albertans. all the same weekend, too. there’s friday at regina’s folk fest (with the ever-so-talented joel plaskett), saturday at squamish, and sunday in tumbler ridge.
bold prediction: alberta can survive their SRB-less summer because there’s a show in tumbler ridge.
bold confession: i am almost more excited about the tumbler ridge show, and i’ve got tickets to both nights at the kee.
about tumbler ridge . . . . if you’re driving: it’s about eleven hours from calgary, and eight from edmonton. three-ish from northeastern bc or northwestern alberta. who cares? these details are minor, because road trips are the best, and the best road trips end with SRB.
it’s the summer (there’s like, fourteen hours of daylight in this part of the world). it’s a sunday. you can camp (or not – there’s hotels). tumbler ridge is beautiful. there’s kinuso falls and hiking trails and the people are crazy friendly. see? there you go. only reasons to go.
the tumbler ridge show is august 10, and you can buy tickets by phone. a super enthusiastic dude named graham will sell them to you.
traditionally – historically, even – august is a delightful time to see the SRB live, and small, small-town shows never disappoint (ever), because the vibe and music always rock. there’s only gonna be a few hundred people at the tumbler ridge golf and country club. you should be one of us.
i will see you in tumbler ridge! until i do . . . here’s without a map from the SRB’s 2011 stop in edmonton, because remembering is fun:
